Under the direction of the Simulation Center Manager and the Assistant Director of Simulation, the Medical Simulation Specialist will provide technical support for all simulation operations including, but not limited to, course preparation, course cleanup, maintenance and repair of human patient simulators and associated computers/software, task trainers, simulation AV system, departmental specific databases, and related multimedia peripherals.  Work requires occasional heavy lifting and use of specialized medical equipment.


  • Understand the use and operation of different simulator technologies including anatomic models, task trainers, computer based simulation, virtual reality, and mid-high fidelity human patient simulators.
  • Serve as simulator operator running pre-programmed scenarios or “on the fly” simulations with faculty instructors
  • Assure that all equipment is setup and working prior to simulation training sessions.
  • Provide technical assistance, support and training to faculty, instructors and staff in the use of simulation equipment and simulators
  • Maintains accurate electronic inventory of supplies and equipment and conducts routine inventory updates. Provides recommendations for budgeting and purchase of equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning and repairing, assuring that all equipment is maintained and in good working order at all times.
  • Maintain and update departmental specific technology resources including databases, web-based subscriptions, learning management systems and instructional technologies
  • Interface with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems. Maintain record of repairs required and completed.
  • Track and log simulation specific software licenses and maintenance contracts
  • Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and operation manuals
  • Participate in technical training as necessary
  • Assist with special projects or initiatives as needed
  • Maintains and tracks stock of necessary commodities
  • Assists faculty and Program Manager with the development of new programming and content


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Technology, Telecommunications, Educational Technology, or related field. A demonstrated equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills are required.
  • Proven ability to function independently, self-directed, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to assess, troubleshoot and fix equipment failures in a timely fashion
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service, meet project deadlines and complete tasks within designated and/or reasonable timeframes.
