Overview

CMU Health seeks a simulation specialist for the Medical Simulation Lab. The simulation specialist supports the CMU Simulation Lab by providing technical and operational support for all clinical simulation operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain task trainers, mannequin-based simulators, and surgical simulators, along with procedural trainers and associated supplies and equipment
  • Operate simulation equipment with the ability to follow medical aspects of training scenarios and make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions
  • Set up simulation supplies/equipment to meet assigned training site objectives
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of simulation activities to ensure orderly operations of the lab
  • Conduct data collection and maintain documentation including stocking and inventory
  • Assume responsibility of appropriate set up of all equipment for specific educational
  • courses
  • Prepare, maintain and repair patient simulators (software and hardware) and related multimedia peripherals
  • Assume responsibility for software programming of clinical scenarios
  • Provide technical support for high and low fidelity simulation delivery
  • Assume responsibility for audiovisual recording equipment evaluation, support, maintenance and setup
  • Assume responsibility for computer software support for simulation resources

 

Technician Specific Duties:

  • Facilitate and simulate technology programming, testing and application of educational scenarios with instructors
  • Manage and manipulate equipment programming and problem solve technical malfunctions
  • Provide technical assistance and support to staff using simulation technologies
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on laboratory equipment, including low-fidelity, mid-fidelity and high-fidelity simulators
  • Perform general maintenance for simulation equipment and all supporting equipment
  • Participate in technical training as needed
  • Maintain and update departmental specific technology resources including databases, web-based subscriptions, learning management systems and instructional technologies
  • Perform the following tasks during the operation of various modalities of simulators, to include mannequins, advanced task trainers, and basic task trainers:
    • Set up and operate the simulator
    • Update the simulator and software
    • Install the software and program accordingly
  • Independently work with the IT support staff Network with B-Line, Laerdal and other vendors regarding existing equipment, new equipment and systems design
  • Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and operation manuals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Informational Technology, Healthcare, Telecommunications or related field.
  • 3+ years of A/V production experience preferred
  • 3+ years of computer/IT experience (including some networking) preferred
  • Proficiency in MS software applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet, and database use

  • Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently. Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons
  • Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions
  • Ability to work with various medical educators
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues
