Overview

The Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner provides mental healthcare treatment for patients along the lifespan (adults and/or children) in an outpatient and inpatient setting. Treatment includes assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the patient care among a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care Management/Documentation
  • Work collaboratively with a physician and/or mental health provider of record, (if one exists), to provide comprehensive adolescent mental health services to students enrolled in the school-based clinic.
  • Through patient evaluation, determine a differential diagnosis and plan for intervention.
  • Adhere to standards via identified text and/or via office practice standard protocols.
  • Maintain a customer-oriented approach to meeting patient needs in an expedient manner, involving the family in the plan of care as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality and patient privacy.
  • Document care provided; meeting standards for quarterly chart reviews.
  • Consultation and Referral
  • Seek consultations as appropriate, act as a consultant as requested.
  • Facilitate the process of ethical decision making as appropriate.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments and refer patients for further care and services within the CMED Health Partners
  • Patient Education
  • Utilize teaching learning theory with patients and their families to influence patient outcomes.
  • Identify learning needs of various populations and contribute to the development of educational programs to meet those needs.
  • Provide a site for student education as requested.
  • Identify system specific problems, which require evaluation and/or change; work with appropriate staff to resolve these issues by participating in performance improvement processes.
  • Takes an active role to contribute to the improvement of office functioning.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

 

Maintain a coverage schedule

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Clinic Environment, requiring delivery of patient care (physical dexterity), application of bio- hazard material handling, minimal lifting (not greater than 10 pounds), extensive computer usage (eye strain).

Qualifications

  • Nurse Practitioner license (Required)
  • BC/BE (Required)
  • Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner certification is desired
  • Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally with students, health care team members.
  • Ability to function independently with regards to most clinical decision making.
  • Ability to relate well to teens, adults and geriatric clients.
